SecondSpin — out and beyond

About this site

This is the full story.

Not the highlights. Not the Instagram reel. Every kilometre, every voice, every climb.

The rider

Lloyd Jowsey

I started riding long distances because a friend did the Tour Aotearoa and I couldn't stop thinking about it. Two weeks after she finished, I bought a bikepacking setup. A year after that, I rode it myself.

Since then: Tour Aotearoa twice. Sounds to Sounds through the South Island high country. Standing on a mountain road in France watching a peloton disappear into the heat. The Renegades Muster — where I discovered I'm more of a racer than I ever admitted.

I'm based in New Zealand. I believe the bike is the best way to understand a place. I think the slow road is almost always the right road.

What SecondSpin is for

SecondSpin documents multi-day cycling journeys in full — not just the distance and the photos, but the decisions, the people, the weather, the wrong turns.

The name works two ways. A second spin is another attempt at a route you've done before — a different pace, a different lens. It's also a second perspective: what the same road looks like to different riders on the same day.

The site is built for riders who want the full story, for families following someone they love across the country, and for anyone curious about what cycling can actually be when you slow it down enough to look around.

“The slower you move, the more you find.”
